    CURRICULUM OBJECTIVE

     

    The curriculum objectives for a caregivers [patient attendant] program aim to prepare students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively assist nurses and provide quality care to patients. Here are some curriculum objectives for a caregivers [patient attendant]  program:

     

    Demonstrate Proficiency in Basic Nursing Skills: Students should be able to perform essential nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, providing personal care, and maintaining a safe and hygienic environment.

     

    Understand Principles of Infection Control: Students should understand the principles of infection control, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and techniques for preventing the spread of infections in healthcare settings.

     

    Apply Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology: Students should have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology, including the structure and function of major body systems, to provide informed and competent care to patients.

     

    Provide Compassionate and Culturally Competent Care: Students should demonstrate empathy, respect, and sensitivity towards patients from diverse cultural backgrounds and effectively communicate with patients and their families.

     

    Maintain Patient Safety and Privacy: Students should prioritize patient safety and privacy, follow established protocols for patient care, maintain confidentiality of patient information, and advocate for patient rights.

     

    Document Patient Information Accurately: Students should be able to accurately document patient information, including vital signs, observations, and care provided, using appropriate medical terminology and documentation methods.

     

    Respond Appropriately to Emergencies: Students should be prepared to respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, including performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), activating emergency response systems, and providing first aid as needed.

     

    Promote Health and Wellness: Students should understand the importance of health promotion and disease prevention, provide education to patients on healthy lifestyle choices, and support patients in achieving their healthcare goals.

     

    Collaborate Effectively with Healthcare Team: Students should understand their role within the healthcare team, communicate effectively with other members of the team, and collaborate to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to patients.

     

    Demonstrate Professionalism and Ethical Behavior: Students should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in their interactions with patients, colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team, adhering to legal and ethical standards of practice.

     

    These curriculum objectives provide a framework for developing a CNA program that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for success in the field of nursing assistance.

    2.1  Introduction

    This unit of competency involves carrying out child welfare needs assessment, developing welfare programs models, carrying out welfare programs, monitoring and evaluating child welfare programs and documenting welfare programs activities. The significance of the unit is to help the social worker in understanding and developing a child’s welfare model and program of activities that will rescue the vulnerable children.

     

    The critical aspects of competency to be covered include; development of program models, identification and networking with program partners, development of monitoring and evaluation tools, carrying out monitoring and evaluation, preparation of reports and development and finally review and update of program information management systems. The basic resources required for this particular unit is a workstation, stationery and manuals.

     

    The unit of competency covers five learning outcomes. Each of the learning outcome presents; learning activities that covers performance criteria statements, thus creating trainee’s an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the occupational standards and content in curriculum. Information sheet provides; definition of key terms, content and illustration to guide in training. The competency may be assessed through written test, demonstration, practical assignment, interview/oral questioning and case study. Self assessment is provided at the end of each learning outcome. Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector workplace and job role is recommended.

    6.1  Introduction

    This unit specifies the competencies required to provide psycho-social support. It involves carrying out psychosocial needs assessment (PSS), planning for psychosocial support activities, carrying out psychosocial support, conducting re-integration activities and conducting re-integration follow-ups. This study helps individuals to heal from the psychological wounds and worries they have. It helps individuals to heal and become survivors rather than victims of certain experiences which in most cases are bitter. Therefore, the aim of the study is to help individuals stabilize psychologically and socially.

     

    The critical aspects of competency to be covered include psychosocial needs assessment, utilized budgetary allocation plan, and demonstrated understanding of child safety and child protection policies. Develop monitoring and evaluation tools on psychosocial support activities. To add on that the study will also look at the reviewed psychosocial support programs and prepared progressive reports. The following basic resources are required for effective competency teaching; A favourable work station, a working laptop, a projector and a training manual.

    This unit specifies the competencies required to demonstrate the knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. It involves demonstrating the knowledge of organization of the human body,  body fluids and their functions, body tissues and membranes and their functions,  body cavities,  human skeletal system, major muscles of the body and their functions, body joints, circulatory system, lymphatic system, endocrine system and its functions,  nervous system and its function, digestive system and its function, urinary system and its function respiratory system and its function, special senses and their functions, reproductive system and its functions.

        8.1  Introduction

        This unit of competency involves planning placement centre activities, coordinating placement centre activities, coordinating rehabilitation programs, maintaining placement centre networks and managing placement centre records.

        The critical aspects of competency to be covered include; assessment and determination of suitability of placement centre, identification and prioritization of placement centre activities, development of placement centre implementation plan, preparation and efficient utilization of placement centre budget, conducting staff training and assignment of duties and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluation of centre placement program work plans, preparation and sharing of placement centre progress reports, designing and carrying out re-integration plans as per standard procedures, development and maintenance of placement centre networks and records. The basic resources required for this particular unit are functional placement centre, stationery and standard manuals.
